It is often windy so it is an ideal place for windsurfing or kite surfing. Umbrellas and sun beds can be rented. Numerous good accommodations, excellent taverns and restaurants, and nice bars can be found in the village of Paleochora, located on the beautiful southern coast of Crete.

Facilities in Paleochora include bank branches, a post office, a central telephone office, a health centre, doctor’s offices, dentists, chemists, a police station, a coast guard and customs office, and many types of stores. Ferry boats connecting the town with Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Loutro, Chora Sfakion and Gavdos dock in the local harbor.

It is a “real” village with a constant population of about 2000. Paleochora is lively and sometimes a little crowded in the high season but it is very easy to get away from the bustle. In the summer months the main road crossing the village as well as the road along the eastern sea front get closed to the traffic in the evening. This is wonderful if you have children as they can run around without danger. Paleochora is currently one of the fastest growing tourist towns on Crete!
